Community Breakfast - Archival Paper Print - 9''x12" inches
Community Breakfast
Original Artwork by J Hart
2024
Community Breakfast" began in December 2023 as I processed my feelings after coming out as trans. I grew up in a religious family as number five of six kids, where family breakfasts were rare because of age gaps and scheduled. Coming out meant losing close connections with loved ones who couldn’t love and accept me. That loss weighed heavily on my heart, but as I painted, I shifted my focus from grief to the queer joy I found, creating a scene that celebrates the chosen family I’ve found in Portland. This piece features diverse figures, including a fabulous drag queen. The painting incorporates colors from the lesbian, trans, and non-binary flags, symbolizing community, love, and resilience. What started as a reflection of loneliness transformed into a joyful celebration of connection, reminding us that chosen families are vital, especially in the queer community.
To ensure the highest quality, I’ve partnered with a local Portland print shop to create stunning prints of my work. I love seeing where my art ends up—please tag @j.raehart on Instagram! If you're local, you can also select local pickup in checkout for a discount! Your support means the world, not just to me but also to the small businesses I collaborate with. Thank you for being part of this journey! I’m just so glad you’re here! - J
